Gartmore Riding School and Emile Faurie Foundation

‘At first I was very nervous and scared however part of me was excited. After our first session I was very excited to come back and had regained all of my confidence. Following on from that I couldn’t wait for the second session when we rode without a member of staff. And then after that Andrew told us that we were going to do trotting for the 3rd session so I was very excited and couldn’t wait, I was overjoyed’

Arena Academy have worked in partnership with Gartmore Riding School in Hammerwich for over twelve months. Through generous funding from Sport England and the Emile Faurie Foundation nearly 100 students have had the opportunity to learn the basics of stable management and have gained the necessary skills to ride a horse. Some of which were very fearful on arrival at the centre. The students have grown in confidence over that time and worked very hard at overcoming the worries they had. Some of the students have expressed the desire to return to Gartmore when they start their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh to volunteer.

Tracy Francis at Gartmore said ‘it is an absolute pleasure to work with Arena Academy. The students are always so full of enthusiasm, once they get over the initial fears. The horses all have their individual personalities and the children grow to love them and often don’t want to leave at the end of the 6 weeks. It is very rewarding for my staff and I to see young people coming to Gartmore and flourishing over this time’
